### **Data Visualization: Network Analysis**

[**Gephi**](https://gephi.org/)

This is an open source tool that makes it possible to visualize complicated social networks and systems. A number of plugins have been developed to enhance its capabilities and several [tutorials](https://gephi.org/users/) are available.

[**Cytoscape**](http://cytoscape.org/)

Although Cytoscape was originally designed for biological research, now it is a general platform for complex network analysis and visualization. Additional features are available as Apps, and most are freely available from [Cytoscape App Store.](http://apps.cytoscape.org/)

[**Palladio**](https://hdlab.stanford.edu/palladio/)

Developed at Stanford, Palladio is a web-based tool for visualizing data using networks and maps. You can save your work by downloading a file that you can upload to the Palladio interface when you return to it. A useful first introduction is [Getting Started with Palladio](https://miriamposner.com/blog/getting-started-with-palladio/) by Miriam Posner.

### **Data Visualization: Charts & Graphs**

[**Tableau**](https://public.tableau.com/s/)

Adding Tableau to your toolbox can help you create and publish data in a wide array of visual formats. [Workshops and consultations](https://library.harvard.edu/services-tools/visualization-support) on Tableau are available through Harvard Library, and cover all stages of the visualization process.

[**RAWGraphs**](https://rawgraphs.io/)

RAW Graphs is an open source framework that provides a missing link between spreadsheets and data visualization. [Tutorials](https://rawgraphs.io/learning/) are available for making a variety of visuals, such as: barcharts, alluvial diagrams, treemaps, scatterplots, and more.

[**Filtergraph**](https://filtergraph.com/)

Originally designed to meet the needs of professional astronomers, Filtergraph has powerful data visualization capabilities that can be adapted to a wide variety of large data sets. It requires [registration of an account](https://filtergraph.com/filtergraph/help), but is free to use, customize, and share your portal. A [showcase](https://filtergraph.com/filtergraph/default/showcase) of examples can be viewed as well.

[**StatTrends**](https://www.statsilk.com/software/stattrends)

This is a free application offered by [StatSilk](https://www.statsilk.com/) for creating and embedding interactive charts and graphs with both web-based and desktop versions available. Just use Excel or other spreadsheet software to insert or import data. For large data sets and more advanced options, such as the use of Japanese character sets, [StatTrends Plus](https://www.statsilk.com/software/stattrends-plus) has additional features that are not available with the free version.

### **Data Visualization: Other**

[**D3**](https://d3js.org/)

D3 is an open-source, JavaScript library for visualizing data and making graphics.
